Islamabad, Oct 7: On Monday, Afghan Taliban agreed for the release of three Indian engineers held captive for one year. Unfortunately, the barter followed the release of 11 high ranking militants.
The exchange of the militants for the students took place on Sunday at a secret location.
It was unclear who the militant group exchanged the prisoners with and whether the freed Taliban members were being held by Afghan authorities or US forces in Afghanistan.
As per sources, Sheikh Abdur Rahim and Mawlawi Abdur Rashid, were among the freed Taliban leaders. The duo had served the insurgent group's governors for Kunar and Nimroz provinces during the Taliban administration before it was deposed by the US-led forces in 2001.
Back in May 2018, seven Indian engineers working for an Afghan power plant were kidnapped. Although, one of the hostages was release in March, the fate of the rest is still unknown.
