Case against Facebook page admin – High court penalises Bengaluru police

Bengaluru, Oct 12: The state high court quashed the second first information report (FIR) filed against the administrator of Facebook page, 'Troll Maga'. The case was filed for reportedly posting contemptuous write ups about JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda and other members of his family. The FIR had named Jayakanth, admin of the said Facebook page.

The high court, expressing anger at Bengaluru city police for filing second FIR relating to the same website, imposed fine of Rs one lac on it. It also condemned the failure of the police and the judge of the magistrate's court in not following the rules laid down by law in handling the case. It has ordered departmental inquiries against them.

The high court, which completed hearing into a petition filed by Jayakanth seeking to cancel the second FIR registered against him, ordered cancellation of the FIR all processes connected with it.
