Mangaluru: Heavy rains expected in next two days in coast

Mangaluru, Oct 13: For the past few days the coastal region has been getting medium to heavy rains with thunder and lightning. This is expected to continue for some more days.

The meteorological department has announced yellow alert for Sunday, October 13 in the south interior and north interior regions of Karnataka and the state of Kerala expecting heavy rainfall. In addition, heavy rains are expected on Monday in the coastal region and on Wednesday in south interior parts of the state.

On Saturday, October 12, the maximum temperature recorded in the city of Mangaluru was 33.9 degree Celsius, which is four degree more than the usual temperature for this time of the year. The minimum temperature recorded was 23.9 degree Celsius.

On Friday, October 11, many parts of the coast received rain with heavy thunder and lightning. Some houses got damaged as lightning struck them in Ulloor-74 gram panchayat limits in the taluk of Kundapur. Karkala, Shirva, Siddapur, Manipal, Suratkal, Venur and Thekkatte areas received heavy rains on the night of Saturday, October 12. Electricity supply got affected at some places due to thunder and lightning. More than two hours of heavy rains lashed Guttigar and surrounding areas in the taluk of Sullia at around 8 pm on the night of Saturday.

In the city of Mangaluru, cloudy weather persisted in the early morning and moderate rains were experienced on Saturday. Then during most part of the day it was shuffling between cloudy and sunshine. Subramanya, Bellare, Sullia received good rains. Uppinangady and B C Road received moderate rains on the morning of Saturday. Sporadic rains were also reported from Venur, Kadaba, Bantwal and Vittal areas.

Udupi district also received good rains on Saturday. On the morning of Saturday Padubidri, Kaup, Ucchila, Katapadi, Karkala, Shirva areas received good rains. In the afternoon it was mostly sunny.
