Passenger caught smuggling gold worth Rs 19.62 lac at Mangaluru airport

Mangaluru, Oct 14: The customs officials at the international airport here succeeded in taking into custody a passenger who was illegally smuggling gold worth Rs 19.62 lac from Dubai. The gold was also confiscated from his possession.

The accused had reached here by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. He had gold in paste form weighing 524.78 grams worth Rs 19.62 lac.

He was caught when the customs officials found the gold hidden when frisking him.

It may be recalled that three days ago, another passenger, who was carrying 487.11 grams of gold in paste form worth Rs 18.21 lac had been caught.

    This is the main reason passengers are diverted to Kannur Airport I feel. Our airport will be closed in the future because of expensive tickets and this kind of Customs. I have traveled many times to Mumbai, Bangalore and Mangalore through international flights and have not seen such bad a treatment like in Mangalore.

    Level of corruption is in high in both mangalore and kannur. Keralites treat mangalore as of there own part of kerala..mangalapuram.

    I agree with you Mohit. However, you forgot about the big thugs like Malya/ Nirav Modi etc. who were assisted to run away from India having looted us by hundreds of thousand of USD, 6000 is peanut agaisnt these scams. Many more thugs are still in India.
