Bangalore: BJP Calls for Ban KFD, Popular Front
BANGALORE, Aug 3 (The Hindu): The Bharatiya Janata Party State executive on Sunday resolved to urge the State and Union governments to ban the Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KDF) and Karnataka unit of Popular Front of India (PFI).
The political resolution adopted by the BJP State executive alleged that the two organisations had a role in the recent communal violence that rocked Mysore. The resolution termed the two organisations as a new version of the banned outfit SIMI and alleged that they posed a danger to the State’s security.
The resolution accused the two organisations of supporting terrorist activities and urged the Centre to impose a ban on them.
Even as the Opposition parties have been expressing concern over law and order situation in the State, the executive said the law and order situation in Karnataka had improved when compared with earlier years.
The economic resolution alleged that nearly 30 per cent of foodgrains meant for public distribution was being diverted to the black market. It suggested that a district-level team comprising deputy commissioners and superintendents of police be constituted to launch a crackdown against such diversion as well as illegal hoarding of foodgrains. It also sought that those indulging in such offence should be booked under the Goonda Act.
It urged the Centre to constitute district and taluk-level teams for the effective implementation of schemes under NREGA.
The political resolution urged the Government to simplify the crop insurance scheme by considering village as a fundamental unit under the insurance cover. Maintaining that moving towards organic farming was the only solution to rescue farmers from the costly chemical fertilizers, it suggested that the organic farming mission set up by the Government should be strengthened.
It urged the Centre to come out with an economic package to help coffee growers and plantation workers who are in difficulty due to crisis in the coffee sector. It urged the State Government to strengthen the anti-naxal squad.
The executive urged the State Government to take steps to expedite the process of resolving the Datta Peetha row and also release money for the development of the area as tourist and pilgrimage centre.
The resolution urged the Union Ministers from Karnataka to bring pressure on the Centre to cooperate with the State in ensuring its full utilisation of its share of Krishna and Cauvery waters, besides taking up the Kalasa-Banduri Nala project.
