Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 19: Rain continued to pour in the twin districts on Friday, October 18 also. While many parts of Dakshina Kannada district received heavy rains, the intensity was moderate in the district of Udupi.
Mangaluru city area received rains in the afternoon. Low lying areas got inundated. Vehicles and commuters had to face uphill task of reaching and coming out of the Mangaluru Central Railway Station due to water logging. In addition, water logging was noticed at Kottara Cross, Jyothi (Ambedkar) Circle and Valencia. The compound wall of a residential complex at Pandith House near Ullal collapsed due to heavy rain causing complete damage to one house and partial damage to five other houses.
Beltangady, Dharmasthala, Guruvayanakere, Bellare, Sullia, Subramanya, Puttur, Uppinangady, Venur, Bantwal, Suratkal, Mulky, Madanthyar, Vittal and Kanyana areas received good rain.
In the district of Udupi, the rain was moderate. Belman, Padubidri, Thekkatte, Shirva, Kaup, Katapadi, Kollur, Vandse, Koteshwara, Brahmavar and Kundapur areas received rain. Rain started pouring in the city of Udupi in the afternoon. The trend of rain is the same since the last three to four days. It starts in the afternoon and continues till night.
One house in Kaup, five in Karkala and seven in Kundapur got damaged due to lightening strike.
The meteorological department has declared orange alert for Saturday, October 19. There is a possibility of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.

IMD has precautioned well in advance with orange alert. Good job by IMD.
