Belagavi: Heavy rains batter north Karnataka - 10,038 houses damaged, 13 dead

Belagavi, Oct 24: Rainfall continues to be intense in north Karnataka, and flood situation is grim. Four more persons lost their lives due to rain on Wednesday. Several villages which are located by the side of Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers have suffered heavily. Bridges have been inundated and Lord Sangameshwara temple at Koodalasangama in Bagalakote district has gone underwater. 

10,038 houses have been damaged of which 206 were completely damaged. Over 150 cattle have died and the government has asked the concerned to open cow shelters and provide fodder too distressed cattle. The deputy commissioners have been asked to make use of PD funds lying with them for relief measures. The officials have also been asked to prepare report of estimated losses. 

Chief minister, B S Yediyurappa, has requested the people to voluntarily contribute towards rehabilitation of people distressed by floods. He said in a letter addressed to the people that it is our responsibility to come to the rescue of people at this hour of crisis. 

Donations can be made by credit to State Bank of India, Vidhana Soudha Branch, Bengaluru account No. 37887098605 (CM's relief fund). Contributions can also be by way of cheques and demand drafts.

    It is better to give money directly/ contribute to the peoples than sending it to the chief minister's fund. Imagine what happened in Kerala.

    The employees of the electricity board paid their one month salary for the flood relief fund. But the board did not give to the government but adjusted against their expenses.

    I recently contributed through an NGO who bought material and directly handed over to the aggrieved people. See the people who are affected and donate directly to them. This is truth

    however much the rain batters this state, chaddiyurappa or daku or feku will not be bothered.

    Do not expect anything but some crumbs of bread as flood relief funds.

    Very true !! BJP has spent so many crores to build statues and they are still planning to spend for few more statues. But they don't have money for poor people who are in trouble. They don't have money to construct good roads & proper drainage.

    When BJP Govt can give 100 Crores to each Disgruntled MLAs why can't they pay to the people distressed by flood that means they wanted only power in Karnataka.
