Udupi, Oct 28: As part of Deepavali celebrations, Daijiworld Udupi, Kishoo Enterprises in association with St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, organised ‘Rangina Rangoli’, a rangoli making competition on October 26 at Udupi.
The programme was inaugurated by Fr Johnson Sequeira, principal of St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi ,Raghavendra Kini, owner of Kini Constructions and general secretary of Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti Kadiyali and Kevin Rodrigues, manager operations, Daijiworld Udupi.
Fr Johnson Sequeira said that people of Hindu community design different kinds of lanterns and rangolis during Deepavali. “Deepavali is the festival of lights and let this festival bring happiness and joy in everyone’s life. Fr Johnson Sequeira congratulated Daijiworld Media Network for organising rangoli competition and wished all the participants taking part in the competition.”
Addressing the students and people present in the gathering, Raghavendra Kini said that drawing rangoli has got scientific significance. “While drawing rangoli, we make use of index and thumb fingers. Using these two fingers helps increase our knowledge. Also, it’s scientifically proven that the powder used for rangoli prevents the entry of poisonous insects into the house. Daijiworld Media has been a trustworthy news house in coastal part of Karnataka and also in the overseas. I really appreciate Daijiworld Media for organising such a meaningful programme,” said Kini.
Rangoli competition was held soon after the inauguration programme. The competition was held in two age categories. Contestants showed off their creativity and colourful rangolis were displayed in the competition. Vasanth Devadiga from Professional Artists and Pavana were the judges invited for the rangoli competition.
The valedictory programme started soon after the rangoli competition. Lion Talloor Shivaram Shetty, ex-governor of Lions Club Udupi, Vishu Shetty Ambalpady, social worker were the chief guests for the valedictory programme. Kevin Rodrigues, manager operations, Daijiworld Udupi, Vasanth Devadiga and Pavana accompanied them in the valedictory programme.
Talloor Shivaram Shetty said that the competition will help students learn and improve their rangoli drawing skills.
Vishu Shetty stated that rangoli is in our culture. “One needs to have patience and concentration while drawing rangoli. He compared rangoli to day to day life stating that people commit mistakes while drawing rangoli but they correct their mistakes. Similarly, people commit mistakes in life but we need to correct them and move forward in our life.”
The prizes were distributed to the contestants by the guests present on the dais.
The certificates were given away to the participants of the Rangoli competition. Melwyn Picardo, welcomed the gathering, Wenilda D’Mello rendered the vote of thanks. Pragathi compered the programme.
