Mangalore: Veerappa Moily gets Rousing Welcome in District

Mangalore, Aug 10: For the first time after becoming union minister, minister for law M Veerappa Moily on Monday August 10 visited Dakshina Kannada district.
Speaking at the programme organized by the Congress party to welcome the minister, Moily said that stretch from Byndoor to Talapady on national highway- 17 will be upgraded to four-lane. The central government has formed a committee on infrastructure development which will carry out feasibility study for highway development.
Moily called on Congress workers to strengthen the party without the divide of any caste or religion. The party has been built with strong foundation of secularism and inclusive policy, he said.
Moily expressed pride at being elected from Chikballapur constituency without exercising the power of money or muscle or indulging in caste politics. On the occasion, he assured party workers of his support. I am committed to the UPA government’s pro-poor and pro-farmer policy, he said.
District Congress Committee (DCC) submitted a memorandum to the minister with demands such as starting day train to Bangalore from Mangalore, upgradation of NIT-K in Surathkal to AIIT and setting up of National Law University in Mangalore. He assured to fulfill the demands except for the demand to set up national Law University in Mangalore as one already exists in Bangalore.
DCC President Ramanatha Rai, vice-presidents Ivan D’Souza, Kodijal Ibrahim, Suresh Ballal, Vishwas Kumar Das and former minister B A Moideen among others were present.
On his arrival at the Bajpe airport here in the morning, Moily was welcomed by Congress party leaders and workers. Youth Congress members celebrated his arrival by burning fire crackers near Circuit House in Kadri and also holding a bike rally from the venue to the Congress office at Hampankatta here. The celebrations ended with burning fire crackers near the office.
