Mangaluru: Son of former city mayor held for assault on Mohiuddin Bava

Mangaluru, Nov 1: Azeem, son of former city mayor, Gulzar Banu, was arrested by the Kadri police on Thursday October 31 on the allegation of assaulting former legislator, B A Mohiuddin Bava. The incident allegedly happened on Wednesday at Kodialbail in the city. 

A press meet had been organized in the auditorium of a hotel at Kodialbail by the Congress leaders on Wednesday night to discuss the upcoming city corporation election. After the programme ended, Mohiuddin Bava was coming out, when relatives of Gulzar Banu and her supporters, expressing resentment at issuing party ticket to Fatima B from Katipalla north ward, had assaulted Bava.

After initial verbal friction and jostling, Azeem reportedly hit Bava with his bare hands. Accusing Azeem of this act, Bava's personal assistant, Harris, had complained to Kadri police. 

After the incident, Kadri police inspector, Shantaram, had visited the hotel premises and made enquiries. The police arrested Azeem and produced him in the court on Thursday evening.
