Mangaluru: Constable Prashanth Shetty suspended for blackmailing, taking bribe

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Nov 2: Prashanth Shetty, police constable of Kadri police station, was suspended from service by city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha on charges of taking bribe and blackmailing.

An owner of private unisex beauty parlour in the city had filed a complaint against Prashanth Shetty. In the complaint submitted to the commissioner, the owner of the parlour said that Prashanth and his colleagues are harassing her for bribe. She also alleged that they were threatening her of shutting down her parlour by registering false cases especially over the allegations of illegal massage parlor. Police demanded bribe in monthly basis, she said in the complaint.

The parlour owner has mentioned in her complaint that she is running the business with a valid license from Mangaluru City Corporation. She also handed over the transaction details of bribe paid via Google Pay facility. She also attached the CCTV footages of her unisex parlour where Prashanth visted regularly and demanded bribe.

Sources say that some other police officials are also involved in this bribe racket and they are taking bribes from other unisex parlours regularly by threatening to register false cases.

The police commissioner ordered an investigation into the issue adding that any police personnel indulging in illegal activities including receiving bribes will face strict action.

Only suspension? What about framing of charges and producing him in court? At least suspend him as the first step. I am sure he will be reinstated into service within two months.

Suspension , that is it? is the law is different for common man and police ? why there is no jail for threatening and robbing ? Mr. commissioner , this is not fair with the people of Mangalore . This constable will join the duty in few days and will take a revenge. Punish him as per the Law . Departmental Suspension is just a show off to make the public to be quiet.

Nowadays, the general assumption about Parlour is 'CENTRE OF UNENTHICAL, ABNORMAL ACTIVITIES', However, this does not apply to all the Parlors. Why to afraid of Police or why to bribe if they are not doing anything wrong.

Suspending from job is not a remedy or solution for this kind of people. If the allegations are true then such policemen should be sent to jail and permanently removed from their job.
