Bhatkal, Nov 2: The railway police arrested two persons who have been accused of stealing things and valuables from trains by posing as railway passengers, on Friday November 1. The arrested men have been identified as Abdul Rashid (22) from Uppinangady, and Ishaq (19) from Bantwal. A mobile phone, Rs 33,700 in cash, wrist watch, and documents stolen by them, were seized.

The railway police got information that two persons had jumped out of the train that was moving slowly at Bhatkal, and were running backward towards Shirur. They immediately began to chase them and found them hiding under the under bridge. They arrested both the thieves. It was found that the two youngsters had bought railway ticket at Byndoor, travelled by train, went inside the air-conditioned coach, and stolen things when the train had stopped at Bhatkal.

Rashid had handed over the things he had stolen to Ishaq. The police recovered a bag from him. The bag belonged to Satyabhama Menon, and she was contacted.

The same youngsters had stolen a golden chain belonging to a lady train passenger at Mangaluru on October 30. Already they face cases of robbery in Shoranur police station. The accused have since been handed over to Bhatkal police station.

The railway officials said that there have been various complaints about thefts when travelling by train.
