Udupi: Claiming himself to be relative, man steals elderly lady's ornaments

Udupi, Nov 2: In an incident which happened in the government hospital at Ajjarkad here on Thursday October 31, a man took away gold ornaments weighing 20 grams from a lady. He had made her believe that he would get her Ayushman health card.

Sharada Tingalaya (65) from Udyavar Pitrody near here had visited a private hospital in the city on October 31 for getting certain blood tests done. A stranger approached her there, and introduced himself as Rajesh, her relative. By assuring to provide her Ayushman health card to enable her to get free health services, he led her to the district hospital.

As he told her that wearing of ornaments is barred when visiting the hospital officials, she removed her neck chain and finger ring and handed over them to him. Thereafter, he went away at an opportune moment which the woman failed to notice. Thereafter, a complaint was filed at the town police station here about the cheating.

The police have checked CCTV footage of the Ajjarkad hospital and are looking for the culprit.

    Why people believe when a unknown person appears to tell a relation?and he comes from nowhere and ask for her gold to make a health card?That itself should make a alarm in mind.All the time he was not there now with gold a card?Hope he has not looted other people too.My God ,when one is sick and helpless they believe whoever offer to help.so simple is that.sad she lost gold.hope not more.
