Udupi, Aug 12: The ‘Independence Cup–2009’ football tournament was held on the grounds of Our Lady of Health Church in Shirva, near here, on Sunday August 11.
Zilla panchayat president Gerald Fernandes inaugurated the tournament. Shirva assistant parish priest Fr Fredrick Monteiro graced the occasion.
Shirva sub-inspector N C Ganesh was the chief guest on the occasion.
The prize distribution programme was presided over by Shirva parish priest Fr Richard Coelho.
City-based Mandavi Builders proprietor Jerry Vincent Dias was the chief guest on the occasion.
Shirva Football Club (SFC) bagged the cash award of Rs 3,333 and the Independence Cup while Hindustan Swaraj from Karkala bagged the cash award of Rs 2,222 and a trophy.
Ten football teams from across the district participated in this tournament.
