Bangalore, Aug 19: Seven members of gangster Ravi Poojary’s group were arrested on charges of attacking the UTV office in the city belonging to Ronnie Screwala.
The Bangalore police also recovered several weapons including pistols from the accused and seized mobile phones and vehicles.
“The arrested are Giriraj (30), Nagendra Prasad (24), Sunil Kumar (23), John Naveen (23), Nayeem Pasha (24), Sayir Ali (23), and Shappu (23)”, said city police commissioner Shankar Bidari.
Nine cases have been registered against the accused including extortion and blackmail.
The attack took place a month ago, and those who carried out the attack claimed to be members of the Poojary gang.
Poojary is an underworld don wanted in several cases of extortion. He has also been proclaiming himself a ‘Hindu don’ and even claimed that the attack on Screwala’s office was because the latter was in touch with the ‘D-Gang’. But the police have not been able to ascertain this as yet.
