Karkala: Mysterious balloon like object creates panic among locals at Belman

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (MS)

Karkala, Nov 16: The inmates of a house were struck with fear on the early morning of Saturday, November 16. The reason for the fear was the white parachute-like object that got stuck on the top of a coconut tree. The box like object that was attached to the parachute object further increased the anxiousness of the members of the house. They immediately called the police. The news spread like wild fire and all the villagers of Belman area gathered and were scared thinking that it might be bomb.

This incident occurred at the house of Kishore Moolya, a resident of Bola village of the taluk. In their distress call to the police, the inmates of the house said, "A parachute like object is seen on the top of a coconut tree in our land. We do not know whether it is a bomb or something similar. Please come soon." Police immediately rushed to the spot. Village accountant and other government officials and locals had also reached the spot by then.

When the police inspected the strange object, they came to know that it is RSG-20 GPS Radiosonde, an instrument used by the meteorology department. It is known now that the meteorology department centre which is at Shaktinagar in the city, sends this instrument everyday at around 4.30 am into the atmosphere to collect all information of the prevailing weather. This instrument is made in Korea. Generally this instrument falls in no man’s land or in the sea. Only in rare occasions, if the speed of wind is more, it falls on residential areas.

So the bomb scare turned into weather related measuring instrument and all the people gathered at the spot heaved a sigh of relief.

There should be some digital instrument inside balloon to relay the information to ground station.
This instrument is made in Korea. Why not make/made in India ?

They say this instrument is sent daily and finally falls in no man's land or sea, likewise it will be sent from other cities also, which means it is another big source of land and sea pollution.
