Mangalore, Aug 20:
For maintaining the law and order situation and to avoid recurrence of untoward incidents, the Dakshina Kannada district administration, in consultation with the police department, has decided to order closure of the business establishments by 8 pm in the city as well as some sensitive areas in the district, for the next 48 hours, said deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj at a press meet held here on Thursday, August 20. This order will be effective on Friday and Saturday.

Some of the unsavoury incidents had been precipitated by some vested interests in the city. These incidents have shown signs of damaging the peaceful atmosphere of the district, he said, stressing that the orders are being issued as a preventive measure against the recurrence of such incidents. He hoped that the people will extend full cooperation to the concerned authorities by adhering to the orders, he said.

“The order will cover all the business establishments, but the transport system will remain unaffected by the order,” he clarified.

Gopal  Hosur, inspector general of police, western range, said that the policemen will be patrolling the areas, duly reinforced with additional forces. The patrolling will be conducted with the help of more than 30 vehicles, with the help of Karnataka State Reserve police that has already arrived, and an additional 300 policemen, who will be coming from out side the state and are expected to arrive here shortly. “At the same time, we have sent a request to the senior police officers in the state, to deploy Central Reserve police,” he revealed.

“We are going to implement strict measures to prevent any form of violence from taking place,” Hosur said, adding that innocents are being targetted by the miscreants. The deputy commissioner would be appointing an executive magistrate to take preventive measures as and when needed, he said.

He also felt that the incidents that have occurred in the city, were the handiwork of some vested interests, which are working to disturb the social fabric of the region, as part of their larger conspiracy. He said that the police department is trying to provide security to the common people and exhorted all the organizations to join hands with the administration and the policemen, in maintaining peace as well as to eradicate the social evils that are responsible for such incidents.

As the city has become notorious because of the past incidents of communal violence and disturbances, the developments that take place here are being closely monitored by the national media. It may be noted, that the national media has started live coverage of the goings on in the city, by installing their outdoor broadcasting satellite linking instruments here.

"Prevention is always better than cure" was a simple slogan from our father in our simple household more than 50 years ago. Since then the town of Mangalore has grown into a fairly small sized city with affluence in business, trade and education. We have the younger generations with bright ideas blended with the older generations with traditional ideas.

But we must always focus on City codes filled with new disciplines covering safety and security for the good of mankind. There is so much the Police force can do, and therefore we must find ways and means to maintain certain safety and security standards so that all citizens - young or old, adhere to those laid out procedures.

All these precautions will help the city of Mangalore to grow and prosper so that safety, security, peace and prosperity will continue to prevail in Mangalore at all times. This is precisely where, how and why we love "Our Mungalooru", and we wish all our City Fathers best of continued success in their vision and foresight for the progress of Mangalore.

""" Mangalore, a Serene Green pastures place, which welcomes people with Green carpet of Paddy Fields, swaying tall coconut trees, thunderous waves of Arabian Sea, a city which is in fact an over grown village but has the pretence of a City """ : this is what Mangalore has been known for years. People known for peace, kindness, hospitality and descipline, lived in harmony, be it Hindu, Muslims, Chritians or otherwise.

A home to all where we found solace to live in...!! and look what it is today? A hub for communal riots, a place known for cold blooded muders, curfew now n then, section 144 at times...!! People of India at large knew not where Mangalore was, till recently when we hit headlines for wrong reasons. Ever since then we are in natioanl n internatioanl news for majorily for wrong reasons.. Good move by the DC / IGP & SP,though it might affect few Business Establishments.

It is better to be safe than being sorry later. Precaution is better than action.. Few elements of our society do these unwanted things, only to ensure peace n harmony is disrupted here. It clearly indicates they do have a strong support n back up from top brasses. May peace reign in Mangalore. May our Mangalore be back to it''s original self, which we have seen since childhood. Thank you Dist Officials and Police Officials for your efforts in this regard. Thank you Daiji always being first to bring it us. God Bless Mangalore..!!!

A good work by the District Administration. Please keep it up and all citizens of the district must unconditionally co operate and abide by the laws. Since it is onset of Holy month of Ramadhan, muslims have expected such communual tension as per their historic experience. We must work for the peaceful social civilized society. Nobody is above law and police should be given free hand without political interference.
