Mangalore: International Body Builder Roshan Ferrao Adjudged as ‘Top Extraordinary Konkan’

Mangalore, Aug 21: Body builder Roshan Ferrao was adjudged as the ‘Top extraordinary Konkan’, during the Konkani Manyata Diwas programme organized at Kalaangann, here on Thursday August 20 evening. The celebrations were jointly organized by Konkani Prachar Sanchalan and Mandd Sobhann, for choosing extraordinary Konkans through special and distinct competitions. Konkani Manyata Diwas is being celebrated every year since August 20 1992, to mark the occasion of Konkani having been bestowed with the special honour, of being included in the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution.
The competitions were held in 12 categories, ranging from primary school students to those aged 60 years, in four categories, education, art, sports and rare talent.
Steven Dias, Roy Castelino, Arun Raj and Joel Pereira were the jurors of the variety competitions.
Vaibhav Shenoy (art), Ronson Crasta (rare talent), Vranda Kamat (art), Josvin Lobo (sports), Roshan Veigas (rare talent), Christel Vaz (sports), Karthik Kamat (rare talent), Teena D;’Souza (education), Anusha Shenoy (art), Sheetal D’Souza (sport), Royston Fernandes (rare talent), Ganesh Kamat (education), Roshan Ferrao (sports), Gopal Karvi (rare talent), Mary D’Souza (sport), Daniel Monteiro (rare talent), Winny Fernandes (art) and Vasant Bandekar (art), were chosen as the extraordinary Konkans in their respective spheres.
At the same time, body builder Roshan Ferrao was adjudged as the ‘Top extraordinary Konkan’, for excelling in global competitions. Roshan Ferrao was felicitated with the Top extraordinary Konkan award that consists of Rs 10,000 in cash, a citation and memento.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Narayan Karvi was the chief guest of the occasion.
Mandd Sobhann president Luvi Pinto, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Roy Castelino, secretary Dr Edward Nazareth and Rony Crasta were present on the dais.
Narayan Karvi inaugurated the programme by hoisting the Konkani flag. Speaking on the occasion, Kharvi urged the Konkans to speak intheir mother tongue Konkani and also to teach this language to their children.
He also released MP3 CD produced by Mandd Sobhann on this occasion.
Vitori Karkal and Stany Alvares compered the programme.
