Mangalore: 'Sevak -50' - Golden Jubilee Celebrations on Oct 11

Mangalore, Aug 24: 'Sevak', a Konkani family monthly being published by Capuchin Friars, under the editorship of its dynamic writer-priest Fr Harry D'Souza, is all set to celebrate its golden jubilee on Oct 11, 2009 at Don Bosco Hall in the city.
To celebrate the 50th year of its existence, Sevak has announced a number of competitions and awards to promote Konkani culture, literature and language.
Several distinguished guests have consented to attend the golden jubilee celebrations. Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva will be one of the guests of honour, who has given her consent to grace the occasion.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'souza will preside over the function. Former union minister Oscar Fernandes and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Deshpande are among the dignitaries who will be taking part in the function as guests of honour.
Rt Henry Dsouza, Bishop of Bellary, Fr Vincent Gabriel Furtado, Provincial - Capuchins in Karnataka, Ronald Colaco, NRE entrepreneur and philanthropist from Bangalore, will also attend the event as distinguished guests.
Dakshina Kannada district Congress vice-president Ivan D’Souza, 'Daijiworld' editor-in-chief Walter Nandalike, and famous Konkani dramatist Francis Fernandes Cascia will be the special invitees.
The event will also be marked by ‘Golden Music Evening’, with foot-taping music from young and talented artistes, led by 'Ye Mana' fame Adolf Jayatilak. 'Nach Sobhann' team will entertain the audience with its dances and Jerry - Joseph duo will regale them with their comedy skits.
‘Sevak’ editor Fr Harry D'Souza, speaking to daijiworld.com, said that 'Sevak' Konkani monthly has seen tremendous progress in the form of readership in the past few years. On Oct 11, 2009, nine Konkani books would be released, taking the number of books published by Sevak Publication so far, to 50, he added.
He has thanked the supporters and well-wishers of 'Sevak', who have contributed to the success of this monthly magazine, and has assure that, 'Sevak' will continue to strive to provide quality reading to the family readers.
In the meantime, those who have not yet noticed the invitation for the Sevak Golden Jubilee Awards, can still apply until September 3, 2009.
The details are as follows:
Award for the family with highest religious vocations : The family with high number of religious vocations should furnish information of their parents, diocese, religious order and other details, along with pictures that should be sent to the 'Sevak' office.
Award for a couple that has led a long family life : The couple should have led the longest marital life as at October 11 this year, and their claim should be supported with a copy of the marriage certificate issued by their respective parish and a picture thereof should be sent to the 'Sevak' office.
Award for a large family with more children : The details of the largest family, the names of their parents and children, valid certificates including pictures should be sent to the 'Sevak' office.
One can apply/recommend/ suggest names the for awards, duly abiding by the parametres mentioned above separately, and by sending the same latest by Wednesday September 3 to the 'Sevak' office.
The award consists of blessings from Pope Benedict XVI, citation letter, mementoes, cash award of Rs 10,000 each and felicitation.
The awards ceremony will be held at the golden jubilee celebrations programme scheduled to be held on Sunday October 11.
