Ajman, Nov 22: More than 3000 students from across schools in the UAE visited Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, on the 20th and 21st of November 2019, to experience the biggest inter-school Medical and Science Exhibition (MASE) in the country. The 13th edition of this annual event demonstrated the scientific acumen and innovative brilliance of the students of grades 10, 11 and 12 from over 50 schools in the UAE, who gathered at GMU to present around 300 projects, over 300 posters and more than 200 paintings.
The event was officially inaugurated on November 20 by Prof Hossam Hamdy, the chancellor of GMU, in the presence of the vice chancellors, deans and students of the university and participating students and school authorities.
Projects included many innovative prototypes, most of them attempting to solve the challenges and issues of everyday life. Apart from working models, students also presented still models and charts about various medical and scientific advancements, diseases, lifestyle issues etc. The paintings on display also won the admiration of visitors.
Addressing the students at the closing ceremony on Thursday, November 21, Prof Hossam Hamdy congratulated the participants and visitors for braving the adverse weather conditions including incessant rains on the first day. Explaining the purpose of MASE, he said, “Gulf Medical University is called the medical university of the future because we focus on the future of healthcare. Every year GMU conducts the Medical and Science Exhibition to develop the creative talents of young scientists, and to instill in them futuristic thinking. GMU MASE gives students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the practical aspects of medicine and science, nurturing in them an interest in medical and science based careers.”
The winners were declared and prizes awarded at the closing ceremony. Sharjah Indian School emerged overall champions. Apart from the overall championship, prizes were awarded in 35 team and individual categories, including viewers’ choice awards. Winners were awarded trophies and certificates, in addition to cash awards totaling AED 25,000. All winners were selected by a panel of judges comprising of leading doctors, professors and medical science professionals.
