Yakshagana Artiste Timmappa R Shetty Conferred Acchu C Suvarna Award

Mumbai, Aug 25:
Billava Association president Jaya C Suvarna conferred Acchu C Suvarna Award – 2009 to Yakshagana artiste Timmappa R Shetty at a programme held at Billava Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here on Sunday August 23. 

R S Co-operative Bank chairman Sadanand D Nayak and Yakshagana artiste, organizer and Kannada Sahitya Parishat Maharashtra unit president H B L Rao inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion, H B L Rao said that Yakshagana is an art open to all. All artistes in this art field are equal whether they are from the native or metro as they collectively project the cultural hierarchy of Tulunadu through the media of Yakshagana, he said.
 


Journalist Dayasagar Chowta in his felicitation address said that for a veteran Yakshagana artiste, it is essential to know the depth of an art than his own stature. The society duly respects such veterans who have created their niche in their chosen profession.

The programme was presided over by Jaya C Suvarna. Karnataka State Backward Class Board former member Sundar V Amin was the chief guest. Bharath Co-operative Bank chairman Vasudev R Kotian, Billava Association and Guru Narayana Yakshagana Mandali honorary president Y Nagesh, Akshaya, monthly journal honorary editor M B Kukyan, vice-presidents L V Amin and C T Salian, honorary chief secretary Jyoti K Suvarna and Malati Timmappa Shetty were present among others.

Guru Narayana Yakshagana Mandali sponsored by metro-based Billava Association has been conferring the award annually to the Yakshagana veterans, who have contributed significantly to the art.
 
Mohini Suvarna rendered the prayer song. Association vice-president Nityanand D Kotian compered the programme.
