M'lore: Excise Department to Book Five Three-time Offenders Under Goonda Act

Mangalore, Aug 26: K Bheemappa, joint commissioner of excise, said that the department has initiated the process of booking five persons under Goonda Act for their repeated involvement in the illegal manufacture and transport of liquor. Final action by the state authorities is awaited, he said.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday August 26 after disposing off the illicit liquor and spirit worth Rs 8 lac seized by the department, Bheemappa said that the five offenders in the list are Preethipal Adyanthaya, Kabaddi Sudhir, Kokkada Haneef, Jayaram Shetty and Ramachandra. Section 43 (A) Karnataka Excise Act provides for booking of the offenders under Goonda Act, who have been convicted thrice for illegal manufacture and transportation of liquor.
Joint commissioner added that cases have also been booked against the owners of the distilleries in Goa for illegal transportation.
N M Hussain, deputy superintendent of excise said that the illegal stock was seized during the raids conducted at highways and in trains with the tip-off from the intelligence network of excise in the last six months. The seized stock was either transported from Goa or was to be transported to Kerala. In all 84 vehicles have also been seized out of which fifteen will be auctioned next month, he said.
