Mangalore, Aug 30: The immersion procession of the idol of Lord Ganesha worshipped at Nehru Maidan, was held on Saturday August 29.

The procession was part of the Sarvajanika Ganeshostava programme organized by the Hindu Yuva Sene and celebration committee to mark Ganesha Chaturthi.

The procession was followed by a huge number of devotees and passed through the main roads of the city before the immersion at the Mahamayi Kere near Car Street.

The idol was worshiped  for seven days at Nehru Maidan from Sunday August 23 and saw special ‘poojas’ every day, besides several cultural and devotional programmes being held at the venue.

The tableaux, which are the main attraction of this procession, depicted epic heroes and attracted the crowd. Devotees offered poojas at several points during the course of the procession.

The police department had arranged adequate security for the procession in the wake of several recent incidents disturbing the communal harmony in the city.
