Bijapur: Four-year-old Falls into Borewell
Bangalore, Sep 1 (DHNS): A four-year-old girl fell into a 150-foot deep borewell in a sugar cane field of Devar Nimbaragi village in Indi taluk on Monday.
According to eye witnesses, the girl, Yegavva alias Kanchan, had accompanied her grandmother for tending sheep. Kanchan fell into the abandoned borewell while chasing a sheep around 12:30 pm. However, at about 3:30 pm the grandmother heard the screams when she went in search of the girl.
As the attempts to rescue the girl failed, villagers informed Chadachan police, who rushed to the spot. Sources informed that the Maratha Light Infantry regimental centre officials in Belgaum have promised Superintendent of Police K V Shridhar to rush a team to help in rescue operation. Three JCB machines have been pressed into service to dig parallel well to help in the rescue operation. Senior officials were supervising the rescue operation.
A team of doctors has ensured oxygen supply into the borewell to facilitate the child’s breathing. The parents of the child had migrated to neighbouring Maharashtra in search of livelihood leaving the child in the care of the grandmother. They had been informed about the incident and are reaching the place. The police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd at the spot.
According to officials, this is the seventh incident in the last five years. Similar incidents had been reported in Davangere, Chitradurga, Bagalkot, Raichur, Gulbarga and Bellary districts. Only two children involved in Gulbarga and Bagalkot incidents could be rescued.
