Bantwal: After Disturbances, Peace Returns - One arrested

Bantwal, Sep 1: A day after some untoward incidents rocked the town, peace and order returned to the town on Monday August 31. The situation remains peaceful.
Even though the vehicular traffic was found to be near-normal through out the day, movement of people in the town was found to be below normal. Government offices and banks witnessed lesser visitors. Additional police forces have been deployed at strategic points to control the law and order situation. When some hotels started functioning in the early hours on Monday, the policemen asked them to close down. The hotels and shops started transacting business only after about 9 am.
Relating to the incidents of assault and stone pelting at Modankap ground on Sunday, the policemen rounded up several people and interrogated them. A person named Abdul Khader from Shanti Angadi was arrested, relating to the assault on a man named Anup Raj. As of now, six complaints have been received by the policemen, relating to assaults, while several others seem to have decided not register any complaints. In connection with the Sunday incidents, a complaint was registered by injured Gopalakrishna against Shariff, Imran, Sadiq, Sahul, Jaleel, Taufeeq, Asif and Sattar from Pallamajal and Shanti Angady. Injured Arzan has named Keshava, Ganesh, Vijay, Vinay and Nagesh as the accused in the incident in which he was injured. Hanif, another injured, filed a separate complaint about the assault on him.Reportedly, several shop-keepers, whose belongings were damaged due to stoning incidents, have not registered any official complaints so far.
Bantwal circle inspector of police Nanjunde Gowda said that the policemen have gathered details of the trouble-mongers and that they would be arrested soon. He clarified, that there was no proposal to extend the prohibitory orders clamped within the town limits that ended at midnight on Monday.
