Udupi, Dec 4: Department of women and child welfare with child protection and labour unit, in a joint operation, rescued fourteen children found begging in Udupi and Manipal.
The number of people begging carrying children in Manipal, Udupi and Udyavar had increased during the last fifteen days. The sights of women holding small children were common in the city. Public complaints were received by various departments. The concerned department kept an eye on their begging.
Fourteen children were rescued in the operation today. Four female children among them have been sent to Balamandira and the remaining ten boys and girls have been shifted to Spoorthi Vishwasada Mane, Shankarapura for rehabilitation.
Officials said that women are arriving along with children from Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and north Karnataka and earn money through begging.
“The beggars migrate to other places after begging in Udupi for some time. Their responsibility is handed over to rehabilitation centers and education officers will take suitable action,” said children protection observer Prabhakar Acharya.

Aren't there beggars (including small kids) in Mumbai ?
Poverty, unemployment lack of education over and above that too big family.
Every year additional member is added to the fly. Even if the authorities catch, how to get rid of them.?

Wed, Dec 04 2019It is really unfortunate that the young children are out of their house, roaming on the street and begging. According to Police Commissioner of Mumbai, the main cause of such incidences as told by children is as under:
"My mother died, father remarried and my new mother beats me recklessly and therefore, I ran from home". Really pitiable condition of such children. The govt dept should take care of them nicely.

Wed, Dec 04 2019Most of these beggers and kids hail from either Tamil or Tekugu speaking community. In addition few do belong to Malyalee and Marathi speaking community beggers mainly found in border areas. In Bangalore beggers and low income earning labourers are only from Telugu and Tamil speaking community indicating that there is hardly any employment opportunities in those states. Hardly you find any Kannada speaking beggers in Karnataka. Time for Karnataka goverenment to act on this matter to ensure no such unwanted migrstion takes place specially to city like Bangalore which is already struggling to survive due to over populstion.

Wed, Dec 04 2019What you mean to say?
Karnataka government should encourage only Kannadiga children to beg in Karnataka... Come On...…….. we should have broad mind. We should work towards eliminating begging from the society...……….. Either Kannadiga, Tamil. Telugu, Marathi...………… no one should be seen begging. Governments should work providing employment for all their citizens... Then automatically begging will be eliminated.
