Panaji Dec 10: On Friday, the Goa government invoked an Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1988, after the multi-task workers (MTW) sent a notice to the directorate of health services (DHS). The MTW has threatened to carry out a strike on December 11. But with ESMA Act in place any person working across hospitals and dispensaries are forbidden from participating in any form of strike.
The MTW was unhappy with the removal of classification of jobs such as peons, sweepers, cleaners and patient attendants. Sensing unrest among the workers and possibility of a strike, health minister, Vishwajit Rane stated that he would terminate any individual who would partake in the strike.
"If they are not happy with their jobs, they can leave," Rane remarked.
