Mangalore, Sep 7: Although there was heavy rain on Saturday in some parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga and Kodagu districts, the rain suddenly took a break on Sunday. Taking advantage of the respite from the rain, people got out of their houses, and in spite of being a holiday, streets of the city witnessed good activities on Sunday. With the stoppage of rain, hot weather is being experienced in coastal Karnataka.

As the rainfall has come down, the crest gates of Linganamakki reservoir, the main source for hydro electricity generation in the state, were closed at around seven cm.  As the level of the reservoir had reached 1816 ft as against the maximum height of 1819 ft, water had been released from the reservoir on Saturday night.
