Twitter abuzz after tremors jolt northern India


New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS): A powerful earthquake, whose epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan, on Friday rocked northern India, including the National Capital Region, with many Twitter users tweeting their frightening experience on the social media platform.

#earthquake trended with 10.9K tweets even as many Twitter users posted prayers for their safety and well-being after tremors were felt at 5.09 p.m.

One user wrote: "I'm in the studio. And the whole thing is shaking."

Another posted: "I'm here in McDonald's, couples are running because of #earthquake."

One user had a philosophical take on the incident: "Everybody is an atheist until the earthquake arrives."

One user tweeted about his experience in New Delhi: "Himachal Bhawan at the Mandi House was moving! It was huge!"

Another user posted: "Earthquake in Gurgaon... could feel the floor shaking."

The earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale, was recorded in Afghanistan on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
