Mysore Dasara : Thousands Witness Air Show Rehearsal
Mysore, Sept. 22 (SOM): Nearly 8,000 people witnessed the thrilling adventurous air show rehearsal at the Bannimantap Torchlight Parade grounds today as part of Dasara.
For the first time, a group of 3 Surya Kiran aircrafts performed fly past under the leadership of Wing Commander K.T. Kurien.
Earlier, the rehearsal began with the landing of MI-8 helicopter, which was followed by the landing of Chetak helicopter in another portion of the ground.
Air Marshal K.K. Noahwar, who arrived by MI-8 helicopter, was welcomed by Dasara Deputy Special Officer S. Palaiah with a bouquet. Chetak helicopters are used to transport ration materials and other supplies to soldiers and to aid the army in transporting materials.
An advanced light helicopter later showered flower petals. Later, eight soldiers of 'Garud Special Forces' presented a breath-taking slithering carrying weapons, apart from performing several war time skills, which excited the crowd.
Three Dornier aircrafts manufactured by HAL, presented the 'Small boy' formation in the air.
While one of the aircrafts went ahead, the other two followed it on its two sides, maintaining an equal distance from the leading aircraft. This was followed by a fly past performance involving a Jaguar fighter jet and two MIG-21 planes.
The Jaguar jets played an important role in the Kargil war and in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, when they attacked Pakistan's territory, killing more than 9,000 soldiers.
