Sullia, Jan 14: In certain temples, strict dress code is enforced. In some other temples, people wearing clothes like jeans, T-shirts etc are not allowed entry. There is also provision in certain temples to hire customary dresses to the devotees who can return them when coming out.
There is information that dress code is also likely to be implemented in Lord Subrahmanyeshwara temple at Kukke Subrahmanya in the taluk shortly. Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have expressed objection to the way some devotees are dressed when entering the temple, as they feel that such dresses interfere with serene and devotional atmosphere inside the temple.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have appealed to the administrative officer of Subrahmanya temple to take steps in this direction. They have said that people are visiting the temple in strange dresses which defy the ambiance of the temple where the devotees surrender to the Almighty and maintain cleanliness and sanctity. The organizations said that the dresses worn by visitors often disturb the devotees.
Compulsory dress code is enforced in several temples including Guruvayur, Thiruvananthapuram Lord Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple, and a number of other temples in south India. In certain offices including courts, dress code has been laid down for the judges and lawyers. Many feel that proper dresses enhance the general atmosphere of places where the visitors are expected to conduct themselves in a proper way.

Wed, Jan 15 2020Very good move. When anyone comes to holy place to worship, you should respect the culture. I have seen many Men come with shorts & women with sleeveless dress so both should be avoided. Evert religion has dress code which is to give respect to the deity or the place of worship.

Wed, Jan 15 2020Dress code is followed in many a temples in our country. Abroad too some temples follow dress code. Like in Bali (Tanah Lot) and Batu Caves in Malaysia. Why should people be offended by such practices? If they are not comfortable, let them not visit those places of worship. But defying everything all the time makes no sense!

Wed, Jan 15 2020If that is the case ,why to wear anything at all ? If the mind of other visitors are pure nothing will destruct them. What is opinion about compulsory uniforms in schools?

Wed, Jan 15 2020I am not against any dress code. Still, if the visitor is truly pious, I wonder how anybody's dress disturbs/distracts? Where are your eyes and mind focussed, dear pilgrim?
