Media Release

Mangalore, Oct 1 :  Dancing to the tunes of fast filmy numbers, participating in different games, encouraging the kids as they clapped and blessed them, the elders at the Little Sisters of Poor Old Age Home in the city exploded with joy and jubilation enlivening the child in tem, during the International Day for The Elderly celebrations organized by Centre for Integrated Learning in association with Lions Club of Mangalore and Navaras Dance Troupe here on Thursday.

Variety entertainment programme by the tiny tots of Navaras, spot games for the inmates, interactions and experience sharing, distribution of greetings and pleasantries marked the evening’s celebrations.

As a befitting initiation to the programme, octogenarian chief guest Dorris Saldanha along with 104-year inmate Cicilia D’Souza cut the special cake prepared for the occasion. CIL students Susham Shetty, Ruth D’Silva, Shibani Shetty, Raghutej Marla and Alison shared their experiences with the elderly and prayed for the long life of the inmates. Spot games by Geetha Kishore and a monoact by senior citizen G Srinivasan was received by loud applaud.

The inmates were then greeted with a specially designed Elders’ Day card prepared by the students of CIL as the inmates enjoyed a sumptuous supper. Sister Superior of Little Sisters of Poor, Sister Catherine expressed her gratitude for the members of the organizations for making the Day very special.

Executive Director of CIL Sachitha Nandagopal, Lions Club President Arun Shetty among others were present on the occasion.

Excellent program for senior citizens, who the neglected people of society. It is a joy when one's children take good care of parents. I wish this was true in my case.

It is really nice for old people to celebrate such a day every year. The standard of living of old people must be improved in India. They suffer a lot and the local authorities should give them special attention, supply more elderly homes with a good equipment and skilled nurses and doctors. A democratic society must never forget the old ones and take care of them in a special way. Best Kurt
