Mangalore: Holy Cross ICYM Felicitates Former Deputy Mayor Judith Mascarenhas

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Infant Mary Convent, Cordel, on Friday October 2 as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of ICYM, Holy Cross Parish, Cordel.
 
Cordel assistant parish priest Fr Rajesh Rosario was the chief guest on the occasion. He said, “It’s a great honour for India that ‘Non-violence Day’ was celebrated worldwide on Gandhi Jayanti.  It is significant that Gandhi had participated in a non-violent protest in Kolkata, seeking peace, despite it being his birthday”.
 


The city’s former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas was felicitated for her varied social service over the past many years. 
 
Acknowledging the honour, she said that Gandhi had set an example to everyone to change the course of one’s life for good by repenting, doing good to others in spite of evil, and trying to help others despite one’s own sufferings.
 
Infant Mary Convent superior Sr Edmond commended the social service of Mascarenhas, who has been a succour to the poorest of poor and deprived women in the society.
 
Cordel parish priest Fr Valerian Pinto presided over the programme.
 
ICYM co-ordinator Susheel Noronha was also present on the dais.
 
ICYM zonal president Ashwin Noronha welcomed the gathering.  ICYM Cordel unit president Alwyn Tauro proposed the vote of thanks while Pricilla Sequeira compered the programme.
 
Various entertainment events were staged by ICYM members on the occasion.
