Udupi, Oct 3: A head constable, overwhelmed by the consternation caused by family, health and work-related problems, tried to commit suicide on the night of Thrusday October 1, at Kota police station premises in the taluk.

Head constable Edwin D'Souza (52) tried to end his life, while on duty on Thursday night. He tried to hang himself with the help of his 'Lungi' at the staff room. It is learnt, the other personnel attached to the police station rushed to the spot and saved him.

He was later taken to the office of the district superintendent of police in the city for questioning. Reportedly, he revealed that he has been unable to get a sleep of even two hours every day after being posted at this police station, because of heavy work. He also explained about his health complications and requested for being posted to Malpe police station near his residence.
