UP IPS officer files petition on DGP selection

Lucknow, Jan 23 (IANS): Senior IPS officer and director general (civil defence) J L Tripathi has filed a petition in the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, challenging the ongoing selection process of the UP Director General of Police.

The petition will come up for hearing on Friday.

The present UP DGP O P Singh is retiring on January 31 and the Yogi Adityanath government has sent a panel of seven names to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) which will shortlist three names for the next police chief.

The name of J L Triptahi, who is a 1986 batch officer, does not figure in the list. As per the gradation list, Tripathi is the third senior most IPS officer in the state.

He has stated in his petition that names of officers who junior to him have been sent to the UPSC while he has been excluded which is a violation of the Supreme Court order.
