Mysore: Multi-talented Educationist, Administrator, Dr Edward Norohna No More

Mysore, Oct 8: Dr Edward Robert Jude Thaddeus Noronha (63), popularly known as Dr Edward Noronha, son of well-known Konkani writer and poet, the late Felix Paul Noronha, passed away at Vikram Hospital in Mysore, in the early hours of Thursday October 8. He is survived by wife, Minnette, two sons, Emmanuel Marian (28), who works in USA, and Allan William (16).
After securing his BSc degree, Dr Edward Noronha completed his MA in Kannada, following it up with a Phd in Kannada. Before retiring, he worked as the professor and head of the department of Kannada (post-graduate department), Univeristy of Mysore, at Tubinakere, Mandya. He also had worked in the past, as the director and professor of Kannada at the post graduate centre of the University of Mysore in Hassan, and as the deputy director of the Academic Staff College of that University in Mysore. During his teaching career spanning over 30 years, he had successfully guided three people to get their PHd degrees. He had made Mysore his home, and resided at his house at Gokulam area of that city.
Dr Edward initially worked as the assistant headmaster of St Joseph High Schol in Hassan, before becoming a lecturer in the year 1974. He had excellent hold over several languages including Sanskrit, German and Latin, in addition to English, Kannada, Konkani, Tulu etc. Dr Edward had visited various foreign universities, including in the capacity of a visiting professor. He had ably organized various international seminars and conferences on various subjects. He has nine published works to his credit, in addition to various articles and translated books to Kannada and from Kannada to other languages like English and Konkani.
He was a gifted musician, linguist, administrator and lucid orator besides having a flair for Konkani poetry. He has enriched Konkani language with his valuable contributions as a writer and poet.
