66 men asked to sign bonds over Kanpur's anti-CAA protest

Kanpur, Jan 30 (IANS): Sixty six men whose womenfolk are participating in anti-CAA protests here have been asked by the authorities to sign surety bonds of Rs 2 lakh each and promise to maintain peace at the protest site, official sources said on Thursday.

These men visit the protest spot in Mohammad Ali Park here to supply food and other essentials to the women protesters.

Police maintained that though none of these men were instigating the protesters, the surety bonds were just a precautionary measure.

"The issue is related to Chamanganj police station area, where women are staging a protest at the Mohammad Ali Park. The men can instigate the protesting women to indulge in sloganeering or disturb peace. The notices have been issued as a precautionary measure," said Additional City Magistrate Anil Agnihotri, who has issued the notices under Section 107/116 of the CrPC.
