Bengaluru: Four panchayat members disqualified for not attending meetings

Bengaluru, Feb 2: Disqualification of MLAs has become quite a common occurence in politics. However, in a not-so-common move, four members of a panchayat have been disqualified for being absent consecutively for four panchayat meetings.

The incident was reported in the Kalalughatta gram panchayat of Nelamangala taluk in the outskirts of the capital city.

The rural development department has taken action and disqualified the four members for being absent continuously for four meetings without any prior intimation or permission.

Gram panchayat membership of Savitramma, Narasamma, Hunumantharayappa and Shanthamma has been cancelled under Rural Development rule 43 (A) (111) of 1993.

The action of the department has sent a warning to all the other members of gram panchayats who take their post lightly and ignore meetings.
