Two Injured in Explosion in Goa

Panaji, Oct 16 (IANS) Two people riding a scooter were seriously injured when a bag full of country-made explosives they were carrying went off in Margao, a major town in South Goa, late Friday night.

The injured have been identified as Malgondi Patil and Yogesh Naik, both middle-aged men.

Police officials said the injured were admitted to the Goa Medical College with serious injuries to the lower torso region.

The chief minister visited the injured in hospital an hour after the incident.

Police are tight-lipped over the incident.

The blasts occurred at around 9 p.m. near the Grace Church in Margao, about 35 km from here, when all of Goa was busy with the Narkasura burning festival as part of the Diwali festival, where effigies of demon Narkasura are burnt symbolically as the victory of good over evil
