Bengaluru: Bill proposed for 75% reservation for Kannadigas in govt, private jobs

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 7: The Karnataka government is drafting a bill that will make 75% reservations for locals in various sectors, including private industries mandatory.

The proposed bill is named ‘Karnataka Employment of Local Candidates in Factories, Shops, Commercial Establishments, MSMEs and Joint Ventures Bill’.

Meanwhile, a notification has been issued by the Labour Department, finalising the criterion to be considered a Kannadiga.

According to the notification, the person has to be a resident of Karnataka for the past 15 years and should know to read and write in Kannada. “I think it is fair enough that people in Karnataka should know how to read and write Kannada that, too, if they are working here," Labour minister S Suresh Kumar told media.

The minister also clarified that the bill is proposed keeping the interest of locals in mind and is not discriminatory. “Many Kannadigas have complained that they are being discriminated and are not getting jobs elsewhere while others are seizing opportunities in the state. Hence, to address this concern, the bill is being drafted taking opinions of all stakeholders and legal experts,” he said.

It is not yet confirmed if the proposed bill will be placed in the upcoming budget session of the state assembly. However, the minister stresses that government hopes to convince all, even the ones who oppose it.

Last July, Andhra Pradesh had implemented a similar bill.

Please stop categorise people based on religion, caste, and region. May be a political agenda but remember because of all these stupidity theGDP dropped from 7 to 4.5. Which industry is running soothly meantime many were closed and others are in pathetic conditions, especially the auto motives. Make in India project and demonitization are the best other examples. Development is always with the competitions, then only skilled work and competency based work force will develop otherwise it may create a non competitive, lazy work force Also remove the caste reservation, let the government provide scholarships for competitive students. All the political leaders also should pass any government decided aptitude test to prove that they will do something productive. Make PhD from a recognised university as a base qualification to all the political leaders otherwise people who have 7 th standard will rule the country.

It should be 95% not 75%. 25% of non kannadigas make almost 60% of jobs occupied by them. Does this mean we Karnataka people are lazy, who want to live in quick earned money?

Very good. Some of my northie friends had opted for central school so that they could escape from learning kannada. Now it will come back to haunt them as they can't read or write kannada but even though they can speak somewhat, they refuse to speak.
In SBI there are many clerks who speak only hindi,if some kannadiga who does not know hindi goes there he faces problems in his own state.Even in private companies the workers are from UP,Bihar,Assam,Bengal and Tamil Nadu.

BJP's economic policies have been disastrous for India.

Karnataka has attracted foreign investment because of its relatively well educated population.

75 percent reservation in private companies will discourage investors from investing in Karnataka because it might make the companies less competitive.
