Mangaluru, Feb 8: The government, on February 1, cancelled its January 31 order appointing Seemant Kumar Singh as western range inspector general of police (IGP) with headquarters in the city. However, his replacement has not been picked so far.

As such, the post of the IGP (western range) that has jurisdiction over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts, is vacant for now.

Seemant Kumar Singh had functioned as the superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada district, superintendent of police of Anti Naxal Force with headquarters at Karkala, and also as the city police commissioner. It is said that Singh did not sow interest to work in the city again and therefore, the government withdrew his posting.

As per the revised order, Singh will for the present, will continue to serve in his current capacity as the IGP (administration) at the police headquarters at Bengaluru. Even though the name of Praveen Madhukar, currently functioning as IGP at Bengaluru, is being mentioned as the prospective IGP here, it is learnt that his posting has not been finalised.
