Mangalore, Oct 25: Tourists of 17 nationalities termed the city a ‘super place’ after visiting various places here with Lia Travels and Tours, on Saturday October 24.

The tourists, including many from European countries, visited St Aloysius Chapel, Kadri Manjunatha Temple, Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple, Achal Cashew Factory in Baikampady, the city’s fish market, Krishna Math in Udupi, the Thousand Pillar Basadi in Moodbidri, Gomateshwara statue at Karkala, and Soans Farm in Moodbidri.

They were all passengers aboard the German cruise ship ‘Aida Cara’, which docked at New Mangalore Port early on Saturday morning. The ship had on board 1,363 tourists as well as 366 crew members.

Of these, 1025 visited the tourist destinations in 27 buses arranged by Lia Travels.

Eulalia D’Souza, proprietor of Lia Travels said, “It is for the first time that so many passengers arrived in the city from foreign counties. All the passengers enjoyed their tour of the city and nearby places. They considered the one-day trip a good experience. We had arranged 27 air-conditioned buses, 27 guides, and more than 27 escorts from tourism institutes. It worked well and succeeded in getting a positive response from the foreigners despite the hot weather”.

She added that most of the passengers expressed their wish to stay one more day in the city.

“The travellers enjoyed Mangalorean food at Soans Farm. The historically significant St Aloysius Chapel, and Thousand Pillar Basadi were especially attractive to them due to the traditional touch”, said Eulalia.

“Very nice place, we liked it very much. Historical significance of the chapel bonds with religious sentiments in India”, said Mellin, a tourist.

Daniel, the photographer in the group, said, “Amazing environment with beautiful places; this city has attracted me very much and is a place for good photography”.

The ship left with its passengers this evening and headed for Cochin in Kerala.
