Dubai: Dhwani Ranga Siri Utsava concludes on high note

Dubai, Feb 20: Drama enthusiasts in Dubai were treated to a beautifully performed 'Maduveya Album' play authored by renowned playwright late Girish Karnad at Emirates Theatre in Emirates International School, Dubai on February 14. The occasion was 'Dhwani Ranga Siri Utsava 2020' organized by Dhwani Prathishtana who celebrated glorious 35 years.

Ravi Hedge, chief editor, Kannada Prabha daily, inaugurated the event and appreciated the effort of Dhwani in upholding Kannada literature and theatre activities overseas and Srinivas G Koppanna, former president Karnataka Nataka Academy released ‘Kadalacheya Shriranga Dhwani’, a collection of article book about the Dhwani Sriranga awardees. Manda Venkataramana, vice-chancellor of Thumbay Medical University, and Ravish Gowda of Fortune Group of Hotels were the chief guests.

Dhwani Sriranga International theatre Award was bestowed on Dr H S Venkateshmurthy for his contribution to Modern Kannada Theatre in the presence of esteemed NRI businessmen. Asha Correa and Donald Correa were conferred with the Dhwani Puraskara International Award.

Dhwani Nrupatunga Kannada Poshaka Award was given to Ravish Gowda, chairman, Fortune Group of Hotels, James Mendoca, chairman, Reliable Fabricators and Ramachandra Hegde, chairman, Spreytec Contracting LLC.

A houseful audience enjoyed the play ‘Madhuve Album’ for two hours, as the social drama lived up to their expectations. The entrance was free for the show. Before the drama, the stage programme was held with the lighting of lamp. The programme was hosted by Laxmi Lingdalli. Swathi Sharath rendered the prayer and the evening was set for the famous social drama in Kannada.

The director of the play and president Prakash Rao Payyar, Jayanth Shetty, general secretary, Aarthi Adiga, cultural secretary, Ashok Anchan, treasurer, also graced the dais during the inauguration. With the beautiful erected stage setting, ‘Madhuve Album’ started with a big applause by the audience for a two-hour tour. Superb acting skills by all the actors who put their life and soul into presenting such a tremendous social play that mesmerized the audience. On the whole it was a different kind of drama which was a blend of emotions, family drama, comedy, tickling dialogues, bundled with best performance by each and every character to make it a unique package.

Aarthi Adiga beautifully compered the felicitation programme during the second half of the event with her rhyming Kannada touch flawlessly and professionally.

The cast of the play included Gururaj Puttur, Asha Correa, Arathi Adiga, Venicia Rodrigues, Pallavi SG, Vinayaka Hegade , Vasu Bayar, Ashok Anchan, Prabhakar Kamath, Swathi Sharath, Sapna Kiran, Anitha Dayanand , Deepak Somashekar, Mohan, Venkatesh and Rohan, who did a fabulous role in the social drama. Each one made complete justice to the roles assigned to them that was highly appreciated and applauded by the audience. Rohan Lobo and Rajesh Adiga arranged the music back stage, while stage setting coordination and light was done by Adesh Hassan and Arun Manipal respectively. Back stage was backed up by Soni Gururaj, Ramesh lakya, Vinay Pujar, Naveen and team. The event was organized by Maestro events.

The crowd also were mesmerized by the play ‘Dashaanana Swapna Sidhi’, a musical drama by the famous Mudradi Natkadooru artistes.

The evening was a successful one, which was graced by excellent artistes, generous sponsors and a wonderful audience.
