Kalaburagi: BJP MLA's wife says 'Jai Maharashtra', apologises later

Kalaburagi, Feb 20: MLA of rural constituency of the district Basavaraj Mattimood's wife created a controversy by saying 'Jai Maharashtra in a programme.

Jayanthyotsava programme was organized at Shahabad Nagar under the Kalaburagi rural constituency limits by Marata Yuvaka Mandali on the evening of Wednesday.

Jayashree Mattimooda, wife of MLA Basavaraj Mattimooda had taken part in the event. She gave speech in Marathi during the programme and said 'Jai Shivaji, Jai Maharashtra'.

As the video of Jayashree's speech went viral, Kannadigas took to social media and expressed their rage. Realizing the havoc her speech and words had caused, Jayashree apologized by saying, "I did not say Jai Maharashtra intentionally. I was speaking in Marathi. At the end, instead of saying Jai Karnataka, by mistake I said Jai Maharashtra. If my words have caused pain or discomfort to anyone, I sincerely apologize. In future, I will speak only in Kannada in whichever programme I will participate."
