Udupi: Konkani Academy silver jubilee - CM to confer literary awards

Udupi, Feb 22: Karnataka chief minister B S Yediyurappa, will be conferring literary awards at the silver jubilee celebrations of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy being organized on Saturday February 22 and Sunday. The celebration will take place at the auditorium of Karkala Lord Venkatarama temple group of educational institutions at Karkala.

Konkani literary awards will be handed over by Yediyurappa at 4.30 pm on Sunday February 23, said Dr K Jagadish Pai, president of the academy, addressing a press meet held on Friday.

"Minister C T Ravi, will inaugurate the programme at 10 am on Saturday. MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLA Sunil Kumar, 'Taranga' publication managing editor and honourary president of Silver jubilee Committee Dr Sandhya S Pai, social worker Dinesh Kamath, Attur St Lawrence Basilica's chief priest Fr George D'Souza, director of Kannada and culture department S Rangappa, as well as Konkani writer Gokuildas Prabhu, will be participating," he stated.

On this occasion, 25 persons with Konkani as their mother tongue with appreciable achievements to their credit will be felicitated. Following this, poets meet will take place, Dr Pai informed.

Silver Jubilee Committee general secretary K P Shenoy, executive committee's Venkatesh Hegde and Academy registrar Kumar Babu Bekkeri were present at the press conference.
