Bengaluru, Feb 23: The sisters of the Apostolic Carmel congregation gathered at the Generalate, Lourdes Convent, Jayanagar here to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during the holy Eucharist celebrated by Dr Francis Serrao, bishop of Shivamogga.
The delegates of the general chapter then met in the Chapter Hall and elected Sr Maria Nirmalini as the new superior general. She has her roots in Karkala, but was born and brought up in Mumbai. She was the principal of Carmel Senior Secondary School, Delhi for many years and at present is the provincial superior of the western province of the congregation.
Sr Nirmalini is a multi-faceted person, and has held various responsibilities in the field of education as well as church and other organisations. She has also won a number of awards for her outstanding work in education and for her immense contribution for the upliftment of women and marginalized.
After the election, she was felicitated by Sr Susheela, the superior general and other sisters. Sr Nirmalini along with her new team will take charge in the month of May. The congregation wished her all the best.
