UAE: Karnataka Sangha Celebrates Rajyotsava in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Nov 6: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha under the dynamic leadership of Sarvotham Shetty successfully celebrated ‘Rajyotsava 2009’ with gaiety and pride. The event was well opened up with lighting the lamp by Dr. Chandrakumari Shetty, Siraj Ahmed, Namitha Ananth, Lavina Rodrigues, Prabhu & Sudhir Kumar Shetty with the presence of Sarvotham Shetty.
The stage was well set and the programme started as scheduled with a Kannada group song by Shobini & Group and later another group song by Ronald ‘Souza and group (Pearls of Mangalore). A welcome dance by Namitha Ananth called “Nee Enna Geluvaagi Baa’ was well presented. It was nice to see the little children perform. Another dance well applauded was “Nityotsava” by Gayathri Prakash.
From singing to dance and then a skit called “Kannada Naadidu Noda” by Shuba V Kamath was worth watching. It was well performed by beautifully dressed children and welcomed by huge applause.
Later the main attraction of the event, a witty humour, rib tickling performance was presented and the performer is a well known personality who came all the way from Karnataka was Basavaraj Mahamani. He was introduced by Ananth who briefed some achievements of the great personality. Basavaraj after his speech gave a good performance which was well appreciated by the audience with very big round of applause.
Later we could see a brilliant folk dance called “Banni Sodarare Horage” was well presented by Namitha Ananth. Soon after this was honouring of Sponsors and later Prathiba Puraskara by Sarvotham Shetty & Manohar Tonse respectively. The prathiba puraskara was handed over to those students who excelled in the field of education and sports. Most of them who were selected to this award were those who achieved more than 90% in their field of education.
Some of them were even achieved 100% in some of the subjects. There were even students who are gold medalists in other activities like karate and swimming. The receipients of the awards were Rumana Khan, Dyan Seon Biddappa, Adora Melissa D’Souza, Avril Pinto, Abrar Ahmed, Vinessa Neha, T.R. Kashyap, Ihsan Hassan, Trevor Prajwal, Srikala Prabhu, Sumeetha Lewis, Yashasvi Mahadeo, Dein Sandra D’Mello, Sushiksha Sudir Shetty, Aarathi Prabhu, Anjali Shenoy, Gina D’Cunha, Siddarth Shetty & Aurello Pinto. This reward presentation by the organizers were really appreciated by all those people of Karnataka who were present during the ceremony. Dr. B.R.Shetty and Chandrakumari Shetty did the honours for the identified students with medal. Followed was another dance titled “Asathoma Sadgamaya” by Namitha followed by another brilliant performance by the well known Ida Melwyn & Group.
Dr. B.R. Shetty, the patron of all the Kannadigas in UAE was called upon on the stage and honoured on achieving the highest Indian pride award Padma Shri. He was honoured along with his wife by an elderely women who felicitated them with shawl, flower, fruits and letter of honour. The felicitation was conducted by Sarvotham Shetty.
Along with him few media personalities were honoured by Dr. B.R Shetty for their dedicated contribution to the society. Daijiworld’s Abu Dhabi Bureau Chief Oswald M. D’Souza and his wife Blanche D'Souza was introduced by Manohar Tonse, Claude Fernandes introduced by Ananth, B.G. Mohandas & Yashodha introduced by Manohar and Sujay Bendore & Smita Bendore introduced by Ananth.
Followed by a sumptuous lunch was a mimicry presentation by Sudharshan Raju continued by humour by Basavaraj Mahamani. Another Mimicry presentation was by Kumar Veerabhadrappa.
B.R. Shetty spoke on the event and said that the love and respect given by the people of Karnataka have made him to do all that is needed for the society. He also saluted all the people of Karnataka who blessed him with all their best wishes which gave him the best reward by the Government of India and the award is dedicated to the people of Karnataka living in UAE. All the directors, choreographers and the participants of the event were called upon on the stage and a token of appreciation presented.
Manohar Tonse and Ananth did their job as Master of Ceremony ably from time to time throughout the day flawlessly.
Overall it was a team effort by the President of the Sangha, Sarvotham Shetty and all the dedicated members of the Committee to host such a beautiful programme for the Kannadigas of UAE to remember. Kannadigas from all over UAE participated in the event and the auditorium was jam packed.
Before conclusion was raffle draw and prize distribution followed by vote of thanks ably done by Sarvotham Shetty, President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha.
