Mangalore, Nov 7:
Two retired professors of St Aloysius College enjoyed rare and unique moments of honour at the Guruvandana programme organized by students of batch 1966-68.

Fr Frank Mathias (93) and Dr Stany Vas (85), retired professors of Physics and Chemistry, respectively were felicitated under the leadership N G Mohan and Santhosh Kumar Kadri at Fathima Retreat House on Friday November 6. Guests and old students offered felicitation in a traditional way.

Ananthakrishna Bhat, non-executive chairman of Karnataka Bank was the chief guest on the occasion.

Acknowledging the felicitation, Fr Vas said, “It is a great occasion of my life that has brought back lot of good old memories. He remembered his unique practice of what he called Gandhi’s style, which is more famously known as Gandhigiri in recent times.

Fr Mathias was overwhelmed with emotions recollecting his days in St Aloysius College. Alumni from the commerce batch too made it to the occasion as they too had shared a deep bond with these professors.

Director of Fathima Retreat House Fr Ronnie Prabhu was also present.

Congratulations to both revered teachers of St.Aloysius College. Fr.Mathias is a very kind hearted person. I still remember his kind gesture during 1973.I was not allowed to take the physics practical exam by the demonstrator of the physics lab, as I had broken a thermometer earlier and I had no money to pay.

Fr.Mathias gave me the permission to take the exam and he paid the fine amount from his own pocket. Wish you both a very long life and good health.
