Grand poetry event 'Kavi Sandhi' held in Dubai

Dubai, Mar 2: Kavi Sandhi, a poetry recital and presentation on various forms of poetry was held at Smana Hotel Dubai on February 28 to enthrall poetry lovers to a new world of imagination of a poet's feelings.

Kavi Sandhi was organized by UAE's Konkani poet friends in association with Kavitha Trust and aankri.com web portal for poetry. The session kick-started with a short welcome note from Floyd Kiran. Famous singer, producer and chairman of Merit Freight Shipping Joseph Mathias presented inaugural speech with a request to the Konkani community to conserve the rich heritage along with teaching the true essence of Konkani language and culture to the younger generation.

Floyd Kiran presided the over poetry session. UAE's Konkani poets namely Robin Nirude, Seema Taccode, Tony Niddodi (Anthonam), Preethi Seema, Vivian Fernandes, Alwyn Pinto, Sannu Niddodi, Melwyn Kalakul, Dony Correa, Daina Sharal Patrao, Darrel Vamanjoor, Anil Cardoza, Alban David Prakash Alva (Bhotam Boliye), P J Karugalnade and Sannu Monis presented their poetry on various topics which gained appreciation and applause from the gathering.

The second part of the session was started by poet and lyricist Arthar Pereira. He presented poems by various poets from around the world along with his own in the most effective way.

Kavi Sandhi was organized to uplift the importance of poetry presentation and to encourage the new writers. Poet Arthar used his body language and voice modulation to demonstrate a mesmerizing recital effectively captivating the audience.

Famous critic writer M Nanu Marol presented his speech on poet P J Karugalnade's 'Nirbhagi Avoi' poem. He elaborated the different phrases used by the poet and explained how it can create different meanings through the words used in the poem.

President of Kavitha Trust Kishoo Barkoor briefed the mission and works done under the banner of Kavitha Trust. He also spoke on translated literature and said, "We must read different forms of literature belonging to other languages and need to translate the goodness of that literature into Konkani. The translation of literature into different languages will help to grow the language and help to understand different cultural forms." Kishoo also presented one of his poetry which was translated from Kannada to Konkani.

Valerian Almeida expressed his happiness for organizing the recital and congratulated the organizers. He said, "World is a battlefield and it is our responsibility to plant our victory flags and a leave a mark through the various talents bestowed on us."

Sannu Monis extended his gratitude to everyone present. Sannu Niddodi and Bhavik rendered their helping hand to organize the event.
