Mangalore: 13th ICYM National Youth Awards Function at Kinnigoli

Mangalore, Nov 9: The 13th Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) national youth awards function was held at the Kinnigoli church ground, on the evening of Saturday November 7.
Prior to the awards function, a three-day National Youth Conference was held at Divine Call Centre hall , Karnad, Mulki. 26 youths from the 13 provinces, were awarded for their outstanding services to the society. A grand procession was taken out from Rajangana to Kinnigoli Church ground, in which youths from the 13 regions, attired in their traditional dresses representing the regional cultures, participated.
The stage programme was chaired by Mangalore Bishop, Aloysious Paul D'Souza. Abhay Chandra Jain, MLA of the constituency, and the chief whip of the government of Karnataka, was the chief guest. Fr Vincent Samuel, member Bishop of CBCI Commission for Youth, Archbishop of Nagpur, Abraham Virathukulangara, former Karnataka tourism minister, Dr D J Alexander, Ivan D’Souza, advocate and notary, were the guests of honour.
The programme started with the prayer service from Fr Franklin D’Souza, Karnataka regional ICYM director, followed by the variety programmes presented by the youths hailing from 13 provinces, focussing on their respective cultures and traditions. Archbishop of Nagpur, Abraham Virathukulangara, handed over the documents of 15 acres of land that he has donated in Nagpur for the development of youth activities, to Fr Alwyn MJ D’Souza, ICYM national director. 26 youths belonging to the 13 provinces were awarded by the dignitaries for their achievements in various fields.
In his message, Fr A P D’Souza, while congratulating the youths for their dedicated services to the needy and the society, stressed the importance of imbibing religious values in their lives.
Sajish Jose, national youth president, and Fr Alwyn M J D’Souza welcomed the guests and the gathering. Fr Anil D’Souza, Mangalore Diocesan ICYM director, proposed vote of thanks. The programme ended with a family meal.
